Election season is upon us once again. Our TVs, radios and mailboxes are flooded with ads about this candidate and that candidate trying to get their message out to the voters. There was a time when the candidates only way to get their message out to their constituents was to go on a barnstorming tour. In rural areas barns made convenient meeting places as they could be well lit and could host a large number of people. This was something many rural communities and smaller towns lacked in their public buildings. Of course as time went on these events were moved from barns to town halls or school auditoriums and gymnasiums but in essence it is still the same thing. So the next time you see Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump or any other politician running for elected office going from town to town to speak to potential voters, remember, they are barnstorming.
