There is some debate as to what is Canada's oldest tree. One possibility, a subalpine larch believed to be about 1,917 years old, calls Kananaskis Country in Alberta home. The subalpine larch is a very hearty tree and can survive at high altitudes and grow in a variety of soils and shade levels. This tree’s [...]

About Us

Aged Woods, Inc, was started in 1984 by Donald Sprenkle, Jr. as First Capitol Wood Products, Inc. He had been restoring an old stone farmhouse in southern York County and wanted to use cypress in his bathroom and shower. He contacted a local “used wood dealer”, as they were known then, and contracted to buy a small quantity of cypress removed from mushroom houses in southeastern Pennsylvania.

All planks are kiln-dried to under 10% (typically 8% +/- 2%) moisture content prior to milling to minimize seasonal movement. Wood does absorb and expel moisture depending on its environment causing changes in shape and dimension; all movement cannot be eliminated. Certain species in particular and wide planks in general are more susceptible to this movement and gaps may occur during the heating season. All planks are precisely milled and graded to ensure a high quality finished installation while preserving the exceptional character inherent in each species, especially the weathered Antique Distressed® products.
